How to move along the Amalfi Coast

Exploring the Amalfi Coast requires detailed planning, especially when it comes to choosing where to stay, which is linked to the chosen means of transportation:

  • Bus (economical): If you want to visit the coast using the bus line, then Amalfi could be a good base. Being a central hub for public transportation, staying in Amalfi allows for easy travel using the numerous bus routes connecting the town with the rest of the coast, reducing potential stress associated with driving along the often narrow and winding roads in the area.

  • Car (not recommended): Opting to travel by car is a risky choice. This is because the roads are very narrow and congested, and during the tourist season, there is a lot of traffic. Additionally, parking is very expensive, around 40 euros per day in the most touristy cities like Amalfi. Choosing Ravello offers advantages in terms of parking.

  • Motorcycle/Scooter (recommended): exploring the coast on two wheels is definitely the preferred method if you are familiar with two-wheeled vehicles. This is because the roads, although sometimes narrow, offer breathtaking views that are particularly enjoyed while traveling on two wheels, and it avoids the main traffic jams that can form in the most well-known areas. Additionally, parking costs considerably less, and it is not necessary to pay in all locations, unlike with a car.

HOW TO ENJOY THE AMALFI COAST

One week is not enough to visit and see all the main attractions on the Amalfi Coast. So, please make the most of your time.

Here a list of the MUST DO’s

Visit the city of Amalfi

Amalfi was one of the ancient Maritime Republics, and here it is certainly worth visiting the Cathedral of St. Andrew, the Arsenal Museum, and the Paper Museum. In Amalfi, there were once mills that fed factories for the production of “Amalfi paper,” which as early as 1220 was considered so precious that Frederick II prohibited its use for public acts. Among other things to do in Amalfi, we suggest you taste the specialty of local gastronomy: limoncello, produced with lemons from the Amalfi Coast PGI.

Boat tour on the Amalfi Coast

The Amalfi Coast is wonderful and with its 50 kilometers of enchanting coast offers scenarios of incomparable beauty. The most beautiful and complete way to visit it? Definitely with a boat tour. The boat tour on the Amalfi Coast will allow you to discover the most beautiful corners of the coast and visit some of the cities of the Amalfi Coast. So enjoy a whole day among crystal-clear waters, hidden beaches, and breathtaking landscapes.

The ceramics of Vietri sul Mare

The Amalfi Coast is a true explosion of colors and flavors, and it is very likely that this is where the art of ancient Vietri ceramics takes its cue. Famous and appreciated for the uniqueness and beauty of ceramics, the city of Vietri must be absolutely visited. Vietri is the ideal place to spend a few hours shopping, strolling through craft shops, and buying some typical souvenirs of the Amalfi Coast.

Attend the Ravello Festival

Ravello needs no introduction from both a hospitality and a scenic beauty point of view. Known worldwide, Ravello is nicknamed the city of Music. It is a must to attend at least one concert of the renowned Ravello Festival, which takes place every year in the enchanting setting of Villa Rufolo or at the Oscar Niemeyer Auditorium.

See the Amalfi Coast from the Terrace of Infinity

Described as the most beautiful and suggestive place in the world, the gardens of Villa Cimbrone (Ravello) are an absolutely unmissable stop. Open all year round, from here you can enjoy a breathtaking panorama that spans the entire coast. The Terrace of Infinity describes this unparalleled natural balcony, adorned with eighteenth-century marble busts, from which sky and sea are so vividly blue that it is not possible to distinguish one from the other.

A sweet visit from the famous Sal de Riso

Sal de Riso, now famous internationally, is certainly the most famous pastry chef in Southern Italy. Despite his delights reaching the best hotels and outlets in Italy and Europe, it is worth visiting and spending a few hours with a Delizia al Limone or a Ricotta and Pear cake at the De Riso pastry shop in Minori. So if you are looking for a place to eat well on the Amalfi Coast, this is definitely one of them!

Diving at Punta Campanella

The Punta Campanella promontory is one of the most suggestive points of the entire Amalfi Coast, where you can see the Gulf of Salerno and the Gulf of Naples converge. In front of you, you will have a view of the island of Capri. This protected marine area offers its visitors unique and spectacular dives, thanks to the pleasantness of the places and the crystal-clear and uncontaminated water.

Shopping in Positano

Positano, the pearl of the Amalfi Coast, is among the most enchanting and romantic places in the world. Also known as the city of “Positano Fashion,” it is a must to do some shopping in the many shops ranging from local craftsmanship to luxury boutiques, overlooking the seafront.

The Valley of the Mills

For lovers of natural landscapes, a visit to the uncontaminated naturalistic oasis of the Valley of the Mills, one of the most suggestive in Italy, cannot be missed. It starts from the ancient medieval village of Atrani and crosses the valley of the Dragone stream, until you reach the locality of Pontone, where you access the reserve of the Valley of the Mills. Here you can see a lush vegetation of tropical stamp, as well as waterfalls and springs, which are a natural habitat for rare plants and amphibians.

Path of the Gods

The Amalfi Coast is famous worldwide for its natural beauty, so we couldn’t help but put a hike on the Path of the Gods in first place among the things to do, from which, on clearer days, you can admire in all its splendor this corner of paradise that enchants numerous tourists and visitors day after day. It is a nature trail in the Lattari mountains, suitable for walks and excursions, which runs along the entire coastal strip for 7 km. In the hamlet of Positano, Nocelle, you will find perhaps the most interesting stretch of the Path of the Gods; in fact, it is here that the landscape becomes suggestive thanks to the alternation of pine forests, caves to explore, and especially spectacular views of the Amalfi Coast.
